I am an associate professor of cinema, photography, television and new media in the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design at the Università degli Studi della Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”. I am a member of the board of the PhD program in “Cognitive Sciences” at the Università degli Studi di Messina.
I received my academic education at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan: PhD in Cultures of Communication/Film studies (Dissertation on Empathy in the Film Experience, 2010); MA Media studies (Dissertation on Rudolf Arnheim‘s film theory, Visiting student at Yale University, 2005); BA in Communication studies (2002).
I teach Media and Fashion at the Università della Campania. I taught Media semiology and Languages and forms of entertainment at UniNettuno (Rome), Media semiotics and History of cinema at the Università Cattolica (Milan), and of Theory of photography at IULM (Milan), until 2018.
My research interests are film theories, film aesthetics, neurofilmology, Gestalt filmology, media experience, VR and new media aesthetics, digital photography, and fashion media.
I am the author of a book on aesthetic and neurological empathy in the film experience (2013), curator of the anthology of Rudolf Arnheim’s Italian writings on cinema (2009), co-editor of an Italian reader on contemporary film theories (2017), and co-editor of journal special issues on Neurofimology (2014), Snapshot Culture (2016) and Fashionating Images (2017).
I contribute to the life of several academic journals. I am a member of the editorial board of the academic journals Fata Morgana Web, Cinéma&Cie. International Film Studies Journal and CS. Journal of Media, Performing Arts and Cultural Studies. I am a member of the editoial staff of L’avventura. International Journal of Italian Film and Media Landscapes, Scenari, and EmergingSeries Journal. I have been founder and member of the editorial staff of Comunicazioni Sociali on-line. I am an essayist and film critic for the journal Segnocinema.
